Southern Tablelands Wine Region – NSW

The Southern Tablelands wine region of New South Wales lies south-west of Sydney and the Great Dividing Range, nestled between the wine regions of Canberra District and Southern Highlands.

It is home to a handful of wineries predominantly centered around the city of Goulburn. The area is just two hours from Sydney and a perfect addition to trips to neighbouring tourist destinations.

The area is relatively flat, with elevations ranging from 600 to 900 metres. Snow regularly falls on the higher elevations with a climate closer to that of Canberra District than of the Southern Highlands.

Hilltops, Cowra and Orange regions lie to the west, northwest and north of the area respectively.

The area produces Shiraz, Chardonnay, Riesling and Sauvignon Blanc and Chenin Blanc, with wineries around 900 metres producing Pinot Noir.

If you do not manage to make it out to visit all of the wineries, many of the local wines are available at the Visitor Information Centre in the heart of Goulburn.

The Southern Tablelands is not an official wine region. As such we have used artistic license to create the region’s borders for the embedded maps, to include the wineries within this region and outside of neighbouring regions.
