The Sunshine Coast Hinterland sits an hour and a half north of Brisbane and is easily accessible for a weekend away using the state’s capital as a base. The surrounding wine region is diverse and encompasses vineyards high up in the cooler climate Blackall Range, Kenilworth and Traveston areas through to the milder climates in the valleys near the coast. Vineyards have also been established at Flaxton, Montville, Maleny, Kenilworth, Gympie and Eumundi.

The Sunshine Coast was declared a Biosphere by UNESCO in June 2022, joining the existing Noosa and Great Sandy Biosphere Reserves.

Flame Hill Vineyard is a 30-minute drive from the coast and worth visiting while taking in the region’s natural beauty. The architecture of this vineyard is innovative, and the restaurant and cellar door sit on the estate’s hill, looking out past the vines and into the surrounding valleys. Clouds Vineyard is a 15-minute drive south where you can enjoy tasting the local wine and a bite to eat in ‘The Barrel’.

Driving 45 minute north of the sunshine coast in Traveston, you will find Dingo Creek Vineyard, where you can enjoy sampling their Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot, Chardonnay or Sauvignon Blanc in their laid-back setting.

A little over an hour south and closer to Brisbane than the Sunshine Coast, you will find Ocean View Estate. Here you can take your time and enjoy the food and wine on offer whilst staying in one of their cute cottages. If you are planning something special, you can even arrive by helicopter and dine in their beautiful restaurant overlooking the lake. All can be arranged through their website.

The Sunshine Coast is not an official wine region. As such, we have used artistic license to create the region’s borders for the embedded maps, including the wineries within and outside of neighbouring regions.
